Life Stream Foundation

People with intellectual disabilities have the same needs and desires to engage in recreation, leisure and sport as everyone else. Society has begun to acknowledge these issues in recent times, however there is still a lot of education and awareness required to ensure integration into community sport, recreation and leisure is achieved for people with an intellectual disability.

Life Stream Foundation facilitates a wide range of opportunities for people with an intellectual disability to enable them to participate in sport and recreation activities within the community. Life Stream Foundation also supports people to ensure they have the skills, confidence, friends and support to access community based sport and recreation independently. Life Stream Foundation assists state sporting organisations and other community groups to develop appropriate programs or pathways for people with an intellectual disability to participate at their skill level.

Life Stream Foundation believes that through participation in community activities, recreation, leisure and having friendships, people develop all types of skills. People with an intellectual disability learn activity specific skills, develop their fitness, learn about saving and paying for items, learn how to use public transport and road safety, learn how to interact with others, improve their communication skills and work towards achieving goals that relate specific to their interests and needs.

We believe that the Queensland Government needs to provide a greater level of support to Queenslanders with a disability and the services that support Queenslanders with a disability. Life Stream Foundation needs funding to continue to provide services.
