About Volunteering

Volunteer with a respected and well known not-for-profit organisation that has proudly served and supported people with an intellectual disability for over 35 years.

As a Life Stream Volunteer, you will be making a real difference to the lives of people with an intellectual disability by enabling our members to live engaged, active and healthy lifestyles. As a volunteer you will assist our members to access a wide range of opportunities and experiences from Group Leisure & Holiday to our Community programs. It is the role of the volunteer to encourage and support Life Stream participants in our programs, whilst providing a safe, fun and rewarding environment for all involved.
 
The range of programs and activities Life Stream Australia offers to participants is diverse and constantly evolving.  As a Life Stream Volunteer, you have a range of options available to you including the flexibility and freedom to choose specific volunteer roles and programs. Volunteering is based on your personal circumstances, availability, preferences and program requirements.

Life Stream Volunteers

​Life Stream Volunteers are greatly valued and supported in all aspects of their volunteering role. We want to ensure that your volunteering experience with Life Stream Australia is positive, well-structured and rewarding.  Be assured that you are fully supported through a range of training and development opportunities and support mechanisms, some of the support we provide includes:
  • A comprehensive volunteer induction session and ongoing refresher;
  • Life Stream On-Call Service;
  • Full volunteer insurance coverage & WHS compliancy;
  • Mentor-based placement with experienced fellow volunteers to support you during your initial commencement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can volunteer? 
If you are over the age of 18 with a genuine interest and passion to assist people with an intellectual disability and are eligible to hold a current Positive Notice (Blue Card) you are eligible to volunteer.
Do I need previous volunteer or disability sector experience? 
No previous experience is necessary, we provide you with all the information, training and support required.  Upon commencement you will be matched and placed with experienced volunteers who will initially support and mentor you. There is also as much support as needed from your service Coordinator.
Is there a cost to volunteer? 
No, there is no cost to volunteers on any program.  All admissions, activities, meals and expenses are covered by Life Stream.
How often do I have to volunteer? 
We require volunteers to volunteer once every six months.....but you're welcome to offer your assistance more often.  ​​
How do I become a volunteer? 
As easily as calling 3278 0958 or email: [email protected] to make contact with a Service Coordinator who will provide you all relevant information and invite you into Life Stream for an initial introduction and information chat about volunteering with Life Stream Australia.  Then, should you wish to progress further with your application you will be invited to participate in an Induction Session. ​
Life Stream Australia believes that through participation in community activities, recreation, leisure & sport and having friendships and responsibilities, people develop all types of skills and lead healthy, active and meaningful lives. With your financial donation we can support the essential work ​for people with disability and  their families. ​
